Need Resources to Implement Epidemiological Surveillance of Cervical Cancer at health District level in Cameroon.Yaoundé

Vaccination and screening of cervical cancer are actually known efficient intervention to control this disease. In Cameroon, theses interventions are part of the cervical cancer control program but few data exist to describe population access to these programs. To assess need of resources for cervical cancer screening at health district level.
The study was carried out in all health facilities of the Dschang Health District. A standard questionnaire was used to assess the ability of human resources and a grid to assess the availability of equipment and supplies.
Results: The study included 80 health personnel from 30 health facilities. Knowledge of health personnel need improvement as only 38.8%of health workers are able to identify risk factors, and 21.3% of them believe that it prevention can be done by vaccination. Forty two health workers (52.5%) said that they prescribe pap smear to women with clinical sign and fifteen (18.7%) have already proceed in samples collection. Twenty eight health facilities (93.3%) had equipment as speculum, alcohol, blades for pap smear sample collection while, 12(40%) had supplies as speculum, cotton, acetic acid and lugol iodine for visual inspection with Acetic acid and Lugol Iodine (VIA/VILI).
To implement sustainable surveillance of cervical cancer at District levels, it is necessary to make available basic health facilities of District minimal resources for screening using simple techniques
